Years before TLC Transitional Life Care's conception, our founder Julie Rogers received hospice and bereavement training at Ashland Hospice in Oregon. She was initially encouraged to take the training by and alongside her dear friend Laurel Hansen, who died in 2014, shortly before our non-profit was established. Each year, the TLC Laurel Award will be given to an outstanding volunteer.
During our March 26, 2017 event, marking the beginning of our program's third year, the award - a Vajrayana Buddhist long life arrow - was given to Dik Willmes. Dik has helped set up every event, has acted as one of our two registrars (with John Devilbiss) and is an advisor to the Board. He also designed our beautiful new logo (with artistic tech help from Sally Dannels), and twenty years ago helped to inspire the first version of TLC's centerpiece manual, 'Instructions for the Transitional State'. Deep thanks to Dik for being so present and committed to TLC. Bravo!
